Wow, did I really have over 20 hits on my blog yesterday? About a quarter of them are always for a post I made on 'submission'. I get hits on my blog for that post every day. I know I've commented on that fact several times now, but it still suprises me and somewhat un-nerves me.
I think the reason for that is this: larger my audience is, the more I feel the weight of the need for the things I say and do to reflect God accurately. Get what I'm saying? My thoughts on this blog are not private. People read them. Apparently, quite a few people are reading them. My words hold weight. They have the power to influence people in many ways if people actually listen to them.
Proverbs 18:21 tells us that the power of life and death is in the tongue. I believe the word tongue could very easily be a word used to mean our words, our tone, and the meaning behind it all. Kind of all encompassing in a sense...
The question comes to mind... is what I'm saying bringing life or death to people? Are my words on their screen leading them closer to God? or further away from him?
There may be nothing wrong with the blogpost I made on submission, but just the mere fact that I have an audience for that particular post makes me want to be absolutely sure. Not just sure about that post, but all the posts I make.
So with that in mind, I think I'm going to spend a little more time thinking about the post I originally intended to make when signed on.

Books and Blogposts
I went to the Library today and I picked up four books:
The Ragamuffin Gospel (Visual Edition) by Brennan Manning
Velvet Elvis By Rob Bell
Provocative Faith by Matthew Paul Turner
And Jesus in the Margins by Rick McKinley
I'm reading The Ragamuffin Gospel first, but I'm excited about reading all the books. I would love to make time to write about what I'm reading in the books, a commentary, sort ot. . I actually sat down and had a hard time deciding which to read first, so I read the introductions or authors notes to all of them. Finally I picked the one whose intro related most to what I've been thinking about lately. But how I choose my books isn't interesting, so I'll move on.
I have this thing on my blogs that tells me stats about it, and I find it interesting to see what people are putting into google search. People have found my blog by looking for the names of my friends whose blogs I've linked.
But by far, my blog has shown the most searches for variations of "sumbit to one another".

Do people actually read and take interest in what I have to say?
In some ways I'm concerned that I get a hit on my blog for this topic nearly every day. I wonder what it is they are looking for and why they are looking for something that says to submit to one another. Is it men trying to provide Biblical proof that women are inferior and must submit to mans will? NO! I hope that in reading the blogpost, they understand that submission is mutual and done on the basis of love out of reverence for Christ and not will, power, might, or right.

Submit yourselves to one another
I love the times when I receive the gentle but wise counsel about something important from someone who understands but has no idea that they are giving any sort of counsel. I think it's just easier to accept that... for someone to talk to you rather than at you.
I guess there is something to be said about submission... I mean, for me as a follower of Christ. I suppose it could also be as a woman and an intern as well, but I feel this is more about being a follower of Christ and a pursuer of the Kingdom of Heaven.
Jesus gave us the ultimate example of submission when he became obedient to the cross, and when he washed his disciples feet, but I feel like there's more to it than service to one another. I don't really know how to explain it... but like it says in Ephesians 5:21, submit yourselves to one another out of reverence for Christ. I'm sure this verse is talking to husbands and wives, but why can't it apply to the body of Christ, seeing that we are the bride? Anyway... I think it implies more than service but I'm not meaning it to be as much as having anything to do with the marriage bed.
So, I've looked at what other Scriptures say about dealing with one another (listed below) and I see all of these things as submission. But more than that, not only do I love as an act of submission, but I allow myself to be loved. Not only do I serve as an act of submission, but I allow myself to be served, and so on, for each thing I've found.
It seems... it's about letting go of pride, being humbled, dying to self... loving. There is something mutual about it. Is it possible for me to love to the full extent of what it means to love if I can't find it in myself to let another love me? Or can I truly serve to the fullest extent if I don't allow myself to be served now and then? Can I really say that I'm really bearing another's burden when I'm still trying to carry my own all by myself? I don't know for sure, but something in me says that I can only serve others as much as I allow them to serve me.... but that thinking seems so upside down, but it seems right. I don't know.
So what's the application? Stop resisting people, Amanda. Just stop resisting people. Figure it out.
Wash one another's feet
